Hola desde Madrid! We have officially settled into our home in Madrid and the students are learning la manera madrileña (the Madrid way) very quickly. After our important orientation to the pre-college life and city, we unleashed their potential into the city in the form of a scavenger hunt. We have the city at our finger tips and what a better way to learn than to immerse oneself! Our student travelers learned some important staples of Madrid from the locals and even made a few new friends.

After our first day, our students were ready to begin the pre-college experience through the daily seminars inspired by the city around us. Students quickly delved deeper into the language seminar by visiting the markets, interacting with locals, and gauging their Spanish language abilities in authentic situations. The art students begin to understand how the world around them affects their interpretation of the art around them.
In the evenings, after class, we look forward to our cultural immerison activities. Some students went biking riding along the river while another group practiced their español en un café con churros y chocolate. In addition to our cultural activities, the evening activities highlight a host of interesting things happening across Madrid. Last night, the student travelers experienced microteatro (quick 15-minute plays that engages a small audience of less than 10 people), una competencia de flamenco (a flamenco competition), and “fox in a box” (an escape, team-building activity).
Our students are acclimating quite well and we are pumped about the next few weeks of experiences.
Hasta pronto,
Sky, Evan, Krista & Anthony
